Private Pilot Rating Course

A private license allows pilots to fly for personal or business use. Pilots can fly passengers and luggage, but cannot fly for compensation or hire.

Private Pilot Rating Requirements:

• 17 years of age.
• Endorsement from Certified Flight Instructor
• Pass FAA Private Pilot Helicopter Knowledge exam
• Pass FAA Private Pilot Helicopter Practical test
• Written endorsement from your Flight Instructor
• A minimum of 40 hours of flight time that consists of training with a Certified Flight Instructor and solo flights
• Ground School
• Read, write, speak and understand English
• Hold at least an FAA Third Class medical Certificate
• U.S. citizen or government approval

Cost of Private Pilot Course

The following course description is based on the FAA minimum requirements. The national average is 60-70 hours of flight time. These times can vary based on individual ability.

• 30 hours dual flight instruction 250/hr =$7,500
• 10 hours solo flight 230/hr =$2,300
• 30 hours ground instruction30/hr =$900
• Total =$10,700

Additional Costs

Books and supplies will cost approximately $300. A medical exam is approximately $80. The FAA written exam is $90 and the practical exam is approximately $400-$600.

• 10 hours solo 230/hr = $2,300

Commercial Pilot Rating Course

A commercial pilot can fly for compensation or hire.

Commercial Pilot General Requirements:

• 18 years of age
• Endorsement from Certified Flight Instructor
• Hold a private pilot helicopter rating
• Pass the FAA commercial pilot knowledge exam
• Pass the FAA commercial pilot helicopter practical test
• Read, write, speak, and understand English U.S. citizen or government approval
• Hold at least an FAA second Class medical Certificate

Cost of Commercial Pilot Program

• 70 hours dual flight instruction 250/hr =$17,500
• 20 hours solo flight 230/hr =$4,600
• 10 hours dual instrument instruction 160/hr =$1,600 training done in Cessna
• 20 hours ground instruction 30/hr=$600
• Total = $24,300

Additional Costs

The FAA practical exam costs approximately $400-$600. The FAA written exam costs approximately $90.00. Books and supplies will cost approximately an additional $100.

For pilots who hold their commercial fixed wing license

• 35 hours solo 230/hr = $8,050
• 10 hours ground 30/hr = $300

Career Pilot Program/Certified Flight instructor

Commercial helicopter pilots most often begin their career as a Certified Flight Instructor. Our CFI program teaches students the necessary flight and ground skills to provide the safest flight instruction of the highest quality. The R22 is the most popular helicopter used in flight training. In 1995 the FAA passed a Special Federal Aviation Regulation (SFAR-73) that requires 200 hours of helicopter flight time to instruct in an R22.

Certified Flight Instructor Requirements

• Hold a commercial pilot helicopter license
• Hold a FAA third class medical certificate
• Pass the FAA Certified Flight Instructor knowledge exam
• Pass the FAA Certified Flight Instructor Fundamentals of instruction exam
• Pass the FAA Certified Flight Instructor Practical Test
• Endorsement from Certified Flight Instructor

Cost of Career Pilot Program/Certified Flight instructor

• 20 hours dual 250/hr = $5,000
• 5 hours full down autorotation 250/hr = $1,150
• 20 hours ground instruction 30/hr = $600
